Newark-based mattress manufacturer Shifman Mattresses said Monday that it is producing two new mattress collections exclusively for Bloomingdale’s.

The first line, named the Traditional Collection, began arriving in Bloomingdale’s stores this month. The Premium Luxury Collection will be introduced in January. Bloomingdale’s has stores at The Shops at Riverside in Hackensak and the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne.

The Traditional Collection is designed to include some of the features of luxury mattresses at lower prices, including two-sided construction, coil box springs and the use of natural materials. The line will be priced at $1,399 to $2,799 for a queen set, while prices for the premium mattresses will range between $3,500 and $12,000.

Bill Hammer, president of Shifman Mattresses, said initial response to the Traditional Collection at Bloomingdale’s has been positive. “It’s really a home run,” Hammer said. “You have a great look, a great feel — meaning comfort levels — and just tremendous price points.”

Hammer said the lines will truly be exclusive to Bloomingdale’s. “We don’t have anything like those products available at other stores,” he said. “Based on the success of this line we may want to use certain features in the future, but there are no products like this available at any other store other than Bloomingdale’s.”

The company has sold more than 100,000 mattresses at Bloomingdale’s during the past 23 years, and the chain is Shifman’s largest account. “Bloomingdale’s values the long-standing partnership it has fostered with Shifman,” Jim Coia, merchandising vice president at Bloomingdale’s, said in a statement, adding that the company wants to “utilize the strength of the Shifman brand to help our luxury mattress business continue to grow.”

The Shifman company was founded 117 years ago and the mattresses are still made, mostly by hand, in a factory in downtown Newark.
