Comfort

Simply stated, you should look for the most comfortable mattress in order to get the best quality sleep.  A Shifman mattress offers the comfort of natural cotton upholstery and a real eight-way, hand-tied boxspring with upholstery coils.  These coils work with the mattress to conform to your natural body contours, maximizing comfort.

Two-sided

Two sides are better than one. Shifman is one of the only mattress manufacturers that has continued to make two-sided mattresses.  While most major manufacturers only produce one-sided mattresses to save on costs, Shifman has refused to cut corners and continues to ensure the same level of comfort and durability on both sides of the mattress.  Two-sided mattresses can be flipped over time and, as a result, last at least two times as long and are more durable than one-sided mattresses providing more value to the customer.  All of Shifman’s innerspring mattresses are two-sided.

Boxspring vs. Foundation

A real boxspring has coils that are designed to work with the mattress to conform to your body, maximizing comfort.  It also reduces wear and tear on the mattress making it last longer.  Shifman’s eight-way, hand-tied boxsprings feature hourglass-shaped upholstery coils that are designed to offer strong yet flexible support.  Most manufacturers today produce a foundation, which acts like a platform and does not add comfort or longevity to the sleep set.  Buying a mattress on a foundation is like buying an automobile without shock absorbers.

Natural Cotton vs. Polyfoam

Most mattresses are made with petroleum-based polyfoam.  Even so-called soy-based polyfoams contain approximately 90 percent petroleum based synthetic polyurethane, which dry out and break down over time.  Shifman incorporates 100 percent natural cotton into every innerspring mattress regardless of price point.  Cotton is the most comfortable and durable upholstery material available.  If you are going to sleep on a mattress for one-third of your life, would you prefer to sleep on natural cotton or synthetic polyfoam?

Tufted vs. Quilted

Quilted mattresses are typically found in the mattress industry.  Quilting machines stitch layers of polyfoam and fiber together creating the top surface of a mattress.  Shifman hand-tufts its premium mattresses, sewing through the entire mattress with a very long needle.  Stitching a mattress from top to bottom locks all upholstery layers together with the innerspring creating a mattress that will stay comfortable longer.

Coil Counts vs. Gauge

Marketing departments for many manufacturers boast high mattress coil counts.  More coils in the same space (most manufacturers publish queen size coil counts) means smaller coils.  Smaller coils mean thinner wire.  Thinner wire means less firmness and support.  It is much more important to have thicker (heavier gauge) steel coils than a higher number of coils.  Shifman only uses large, heavy (gauge) steel coils for maximum comfort and support.
